How is business data de-identified?

· By Erin · 6 min read

Short answer

It depends on the data buyer. Typically names, emails, phones and other personal details are removed or replaced while keeping the story of how work got done. Aftergold does not de-identify data. We help you ask the buyer to show you, before you agree.

Who strips the names?

The data buyer. Different licensing companies use different processes. Many can show before-and-after examples so you can see what “de-identified” actually means.

Those names belong to customers and employees who helped you build the company. Treating them carefully is part of respecting the years, not a technical footnote.

Is it safe to license company data for AI training?

It can be, if you understand privacy, IP, client-owned work, security and the rights you would grant. You do not have to resolve all of that just to explore. You should resolve it before you sign.

Aftergold approaches this from the business side. See How is company data anonymized or de-identified for AI training? and Is it safe to license my company's data for AI training?
